In the state of Utah, you can build a park almost anywhere and get a great view of the mountains. Smith's Ballpark is no exception. A fine ballpark in its own right, it's the setting that is the most memorable feature. With a great view of the Wasatch Mountains beyond the outfield fences, settings just don't get much better than this. Though built in 1994, Smith's Ballpark actually feels newer than that. This is due to having amenities (such as a wraparound concourse) that are typically found in ballparks built after 2000. Additionally, the ballpark is kept immaculately clean, which also helps maintain its fresh feel. Its location, a couple of miles south of downtown, means there is no view of the skyline, but the mountain backdrop more than makes up for it. The ballpark’s structure most resembles Chukchansi Park in Fresno. There are two levels of seating, each holding about the same capacity. The luxury boxes and press box are located at the top of the second deck, meaning all seats have a good view of the field. For overflow crowds—or fans who enjoy sitting on blankets—there is ample berm seating behind the outfield fences. Large picnic areas in the outfield add to the casual charm. The open concourse features numerous concession stands offering a wide variety of food, including BBQ, Mexican, Chicago dogs, deli sandwiches, and pizza. The quality is good, and the prices are reasonable, though some costs do lean higher. Box seats on the first level were priced at $20, programs cost $4, and parking (plentiful) was $5. The atmosphere at Smith's Ballpark was refreshingly baseball-oriented. Despite the presence of an on-field DJ and a few between-inning games, the crowd generally seemed engaged in the game itself—even on fireworks night, which often attracts non-baseball fans. A large team store located behind home plate provided merchandise options, though the selection didn’t feel particularly diverse. After serving as the home of the Bees for 31 seasons, Smith's Ballpark closed its chapter as a baseball stadium at the end of the 2024 season. In 2025, the Bees relocated to a new ballpark in South Jordan. Looking forward, Smith's Ballpark will be repurposed as a mixed-use entertainment venue, ensuring its continued relevance in the community. Clean, comfortable, and with a spectacular setting, Smith's Ballpark stood out as one of Utah's finest venues during its time as a baseball park.
