| Durham Bulls Athletic Park
(DBAP) is certainly one of the finest new parks in the country. From its
brick exterior which fits in perfectly with the old tobacco warehouses,
to the immaculate interior featuring a cantilevered room, DBAP is simply
a great place to see a game. The seats are comfortable, have wide aisles,
and are all quite close to the action. Left Field features a mini-"Green
Monster" that is about 25 feet high and contains a hand operated scoreboard.
A bigger electronic scoreboard is deep in center field, but is really not
used that much. The animated bull has been moved from the old
park, and still resides in right field. A picnic area and large grassy
slope are also located in right field. A gift shop is the first thing that
greets you as you walk into the park. After walking up a flight of stairs,
you arrive in the concourse area which is loaded with a great variety of
concession stands. One complaint I had was that there did not seem to be
enough entranceways to the seating area - just two narrow ones down each
line. The between inning promotions were kept to a minimum - just one the
whole night I was there. Unfortunately, it was a doubleheader so we were
only allowed in 1/2 hour before game time - meaning less time to check
out the ball park. One of the few minor league parks with an actual organ
player.
