| Despite being a relatively new park, Fieldcrest Cannon (yes, a corporate sponsor) is somewhat unique compared to other cookie cutter minor league parks being built today. The seating is not setup in a symmetrical fashion as the seats extend further down the right field line than they do down the left field line. Also, while the pressbox is directly behind homeplate, all the luxury boxes and administrative offices are housed in a building that is along the first base side. The park is built into a bowl so you enter at the top of the seating area. The concourse area overlooks the field as it does at most new parks today. The lack of covering here is the biggest complaint I have – when it rains here (which it does often in North Carolina), there is simply not enough areas where fans can stay dry. The seating bowl is split by a useless center concourse which serves no purpose. Also, for some reason there is one section of seating on the 3rd base side which is just concrete – no seats, no bleachers. Not sure if this was an intentional part of the design or not, but it looks odd and gives the park a rather shabby feel. The stadium is situated in a woodsy area right off of a major highway. So the backdrop to the stadium is just trees. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the ballpark. The parking fee is $2. Concessions at Fieldcrest Cannon are well varied and reasonably prices. Unique items include Mater sandwiches (tomato), cheese steaks, Carolina dogs, breaded mushrooms, and hot wings. One other negative in my book – smoking is allowed anywhere on the concourse. I guess in North Carolina there are too many smokers still, so they can't restrict them too much yet. In my first attempt to see a game here in 2008, I was rained out. Certainly a fine facility for the South Atlantic League and one which I will try to get back to for a game in the near future.
