Colburn Park has been home to professional baseball twice. First in the early 1980's Newark was home to a team in the New York - Penn League. Then in the mid 1990's, baseball returned in the form of the now defunct North Atlantic League. The team was known as the Barge Bandits for the two years in the NAL. But as you can see from the above pictures, they were lucky to ever host professional baseball. This park is really no better than most high school fields. The seating is all wooden bleachers which did not appear to even be safe when I visited in '98. A press box is located in the building directly behind home plate. Colburn Park is most likely a place that will never see professional baseball again. Though it has been home to a collegiate league team for the past several years.
