Cardines Field
Newport, Rhode Island
Cardines Field has sometimes laid claim to being one of the oldest ballparks in America, though the evidence suggests that the ballpark was most likely built in 1938. Baseball has been played on the site since at least 1908, however. No matter, Cardines Field is an historic and unique ballpark that is is nestled into the downtown of picturesque Newport. While professional baseball has never been played here, it has hosted numerous amateur teams over the years. Most recently, it has been home to the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. I was unable to get inside during my visit in November of 2015, but hopefully I will get back for a game someday. It is definitely a must see for any ballpark fan!
