I never did see a game at Durham Athletic Park, which the movie Bull Durham made famous. After the Bulls left for their new downtown ballpark in 1995, a professional softball team moved in for several years (which is what it was being used for when I first stopped by in 1997). Then in 2008, the city of Durham poured $4 million into the ballpark and Minor League Baseball took over the operations of the ballpark. After the renovations, the Bulls did host a throwback game here in both 2010 and 2011. I stopped by again in 2012 and was quite impressed by what I saw (though was not able to get inside). It is now used strictly for amateur baseball as there have been no plans to bring any moe Bulls game back here. While Durham Athletic Park is a unique and historically significant ballpark, it is not as nice as others at parks like Macon and Pittsfield. There was a lot of opposition when the new Durham Bulls Athletic Park was being built, but they clearly have a better facility to play in now.
