Small Park has a varied history of hosting professional baseball through the years. It started out as a home for Negro League teams in the 1930's, but also hosted minor league and spring training games in the 1950's before Wolfson Park was built. After being neglected in the 1970's, the ballpark was renovated sometime in the 1980's and then again in 2006. I'm not sure what the extent of the renovations were, but they appear to have included a new roof, new brickwork, and new landscaping in the front of the park. Small Park is now touted by the city as the "last historic park" in Jacksonville since Wolfson park was torn down. It is good to see that this vintage neighborhood park, which is still used for amateur baseball, was able to survive.
