| Finally a new park that is truly unique. Because of its location in downtown Erie, it had to be built in a very untraditional fashion. Jerry Uht Park features a small upper deck along the first base side as the seating is limited by the street running behind it. The seating along the third base side is more traditional. There are also two bleacher sections - one down each line. The backdrop is rather unique as well - an arena is located just past the fence in left field, while the view over the center and right field is that of houses. The city has done a beautiful job tucking this park into a downtown location and creating something different than the standard '90's template. The concourse area runs behind the third base grandstand and directly under (and in view of the playing field) the first base upper deck. Concessions are rather ordinary with only a meatball sub out of the ordinary. One omission from this park is a souvenir store. There is a small stand with souvenirs, but most Double-A parks now have an actual store to browse. Several on-field promotions are held between innings - the most memorable being the plunger toss where contestants attempt to throw plungers into a large inflated toilet. Because of its downtown setting, parking is somewhat limited and expensive. A refreshing park to take in a game at for those who are bored with the standard new ballparks. Jerry Uht Park certainly offers something a bit different. |
